Mali Debeli Džin (Little Fat Gin) is an unfiltered gin of exceptional quality – handmade and distilled in small batches
Each bottle of gin is handcrafted in very small, limited batches, featuring a distillate made from a unique selection of premium-quality ingredients and water of exceptional purity and characteristics.
Little Fat Gin is ready for some music and some bubbles!
Mix it with tonic, soda, prosecco, or sparkling water and set sail on an exciting adventure with the Mali Debeli!
We spent nearly two years crafting the combination of ingredients for our gin. We tested a vast number of different Serbian waters – purified or distilled using various methods – from several sources. We traveled, visited many distilleries, and sampled gins across the region to compare the methods and technologies used by those who embarked on their creative distillation journeys before us, learning a great deal from them about the gin-making process.

Welcome to our world of gin: the little and fat one!
In some Slavic languages
– Word Džin translates to both Gin and Giant/Genie
Our name Mali Debeli Džin can be read as either:
„Little Fat Gin“ or „Little Fat Giant“
Our name is a tribute to this double meaning – pairing the spirit we craft with the giant personality behind it.
Here, every bottle tells a story of love, innovation, and constant exploration. Although Serbia is already deeply in love with gin today, and many high-quality distillates can be found on the market – we decided to try and create something more than just another new gin. We set out to create an entirely new experience and a new creative community that brings us together – one that is inclusive of everyone who appreciates high quality, but also the sense of play involved in achieving it.
As a result of this two-year-long journey of play, we have introduced our first three gins to the market:
Has seen London, yet he stayed dry
In misty London, he crossed the Abbey Road zebra crossing without even taking a photo for the ‘Gram. He munched on roasted nuts by Tower Bridge. He hoped, he watched the sky, but he still stayed dry.
This is our homage to the traditional London Dry Gin. Juniper takes center stage, followed by subtle spicy notes. It serves as the ideal foundation for a perfect Gin & Tonic, yet remains complex enough for a sophisticated Dry Martini – primarily due to the subtle aroma of roasted nuts. If you are new to the world of gin, this is your starting point.

Sweetest raspberries keeps for himself
He picked and tasted raspberries in both Arilje and Ivanjica, but somewhere at the foot of Tara, on the banks of the Drina, he fell in love with the sweetest ones.
This isn’t an oversweet liqueur, but a true gin infused with the natural essence of ripe raspberries. While the fruit aroma takes the lead, the palate is perfectly balanced with a sweetness that isn’t overpowering. It is fantastic when paired with sparkling wine (Prosecco) or simply with soda water and a few fresh raspberries.

Peeled plenty of orange zest
On the veranda of his distillery in Belegiš, with a grater in his lap – he zested so much orange peel that his hands ached for days, but they smelled absolutely divine…
The intense, fresh scent of ripe orange dominates the aroma, while the gin’s signature dryness remains on the palate. It is perfect for summer days, mixed with a high-quality tonic and garnished with a slice of orange. Try it in a Negroni for an entirely new experience.

Our gin is defined by three components
Our journey began several years ago. It took shape through visits to regional distilleries, and after a series of pivotal visits to gin distilleries in Istria, it found its final form with the founding of our small distillery in Belegiš.
We dedicated nearly two years to creating our first recipes and crafting the perfect distillate.
Today, our distillate is defined by three components in the process:
In our distillate, we use only ingredients of exceptional quality and verified origin – such as those from the Institute for Medicinal Plant Research „Dr. Josif Pančić.“
The juniper, which serves as the foundation of every distillate, originates from two regions of Serbia – Stara Planina and Zlatar – and we purchase it exclusively from small local suppliers.
An uncompromising approach to ingredient selection gives us absolute control over every detail, resulting in an authentic character and the flawless quality of the final distillate.
Botanicals
Beside the ingredients we distill, we have directed great attention toward the water used in our production.
For this reason, we decided that for the final product, we will use only water of the highest quality – sourced from the slopes of Fruška Gora and purified through a series of processes, including reverse osmosis.
Water
Our gin is born in copper stills after extended maceration, in small, controlled batches. This slow, almost ritualistic distillation process allows us to precisely isolate the „heart“ of the distillate.
What makes our gin different is that we do not filter it, ensuring we preserve the full richness of its flavor and aroma.
For this reason, the gin may sometimes appear slightly cloudy when chilled or mixed – this is the result of a high concentration of essential oil components in the distillate and proof of its premium quality.
Distillation
Our gin in media
Little Fat Gin was mentioned in media a few times, and every time – he shined!
We were part of AFP’s research on the topic of juniper cultivation and quality in the Balkans:
„Protecting the taste in the glass falls to distillers like Ivan Lakatos, who runs a craft gin producer in the Serbian village of Belegis.
„The quality of juniper doesn’t depend on the size of the berry itself, but on the intensity of its flavour, where it was picked,“ he said, as vapours rise from a copper still in the basement behind him.
To compete with the region’s dominant spirit, rakija — a brandy most often made with plums — it is vitally important to maintain quality in every one of the around 2,000 bottles of his Little Fat Gin he sells per year.
„We’re proud of that, but we’d like that number to grow,“ he said.
For him, local sourcing remains key, with noticeable differences in taste between Serbian juniper and juniper from other parts of Europe.“
Awards
At the 2026 IWSC in London, both of the distillates we entered received recognition – silver and bronze.
The IWSC (International Wine and Spirit Competition) is the world’s leading competition, and although this was our first time participating in an event of this scale, we are extremely proud to have earned awards for our very first two spirits.
We won a silver medal for our London Dry Gin
„A warm pine and nutty aroma lead to a balanced palate where sweet and dry notes mingle with classic juniper and green botanicals. The finish is dry and lightly bitter, lingering with subtle spice.“

And for our raspberry-flavored gin, we won a bronze medal
„Lifted spice leads to cooked marmalade and citrus hints. The palate offers sweet, zesty, nutty notes with a smooth, slightly edgy finish.“

It’s time for some music and some bubbles!
